No — New York City is not paying off your loans. What Summer does is help you manage your debt, apply for forgiveness programs, and avoid overpaying. Many borrowers can see their monthly payments drop significantly, which can lead to significant savings, lower interest charges, or even full forgiveness over time.

Depending on your situation, you may be eligible for loan assistance and forgiveness programs. These programs are subject to eligibility requirements, and Summer will guide you each step of the way to see whether you qualify, and can help you enroll if you do.

Your loan servicer will remain the same, and you don’t need to contact your loan servicer to participate. Summer supplements information that your loan servicer can provide, and if your loan situation requires you to contact your servicer, we will provide step-by-step guidance on what to communicate and how.
