How to Find and Contact Your Federal Student Loan Servicer

August 5, 2025

Your loan servicer is an important contact when it comes to managing your federal student loans. Each federal student loan is assigned to a loan servicer, which is a company that handles billing, customer service, and repayment support on behalf of the U.S. Department of Education. The compnay that services your loan may change overtime.

Why It’s Important to Know Your Loan Servicer

Summer’s platform guides you through the process of applying for repayment programs and forgiveness options. Your loan servicer ultimately processes those applications and changes your payments based on your chosen repayment program. That’s why it’s good to know know who your servicer is and how to reach them if you need immediate assistance.

Your loan servicer stays the same when using Summer, and you don’t need to contact them to participate. We supplement information that your loan servicer can provide, and if your loan situation requires you to contact your servicer, we will provide step-by-step guidance on what to communicate and how.

If you’re unsure who your loan servicer is or how to contact them, you’re not alone. Here’s everything you need to know.
